Crafts: Wall Hangings and Christmas Ornaments

This is a wall hanging which I made from printed fabric.  It was quilted with padding in the middle and tied with knots. It's purpose is to count the days until Christmas by moving the little teddy bear from place to place as directed each day. He attaches to each location with a little snap. We hang this every year since 1985 even though the children are no longer living at home to move the bear!
Our fully decorated Christmas tree....

Pictured in the photo on the top is a blown egg which was painted by a local woman in the 1980's and was a gift from "apple cyder's" mother. It is one of two and they have both survived all these years. (Click on photos to enlarge)

In addition to a few Hallmark ornaments, on the bottom hangs a spherical ornament made by my mother from a kit and to it's the left is a red, starched crocheted ornament which is one of six that my mother in law gave us one Christmas many years ago. They have held up very well !
Above are some of the picture ornaments of the children throughout the years along with many, many Hallmark ornaments purchased over the years. I try to select three each year with each child in mind and Hallmark makes this easy with their varied selection of topical ornaments. These ornaments will be something to add to their collection some day.

A pair of handmade felt Santa and Mrs. Claus ornaments purchased at a local church festival in the 1980's. Still adorable !

The choir boy was also a find at the same festival and the beaded ornament was one of many I made from a kit in the 1970's

These beaded ornaments were made by
my mother in 1971 from kits. They help to
make our tree unique.

And this yarn Santa my mother crafted in the 1950's. It was one of many which adorned our tree back then but is the only survivor today. Next to him is an ornament I made of my mother in 1971. Sadly she passed away rather suddenly two weeks before Christmas that year.
These are just some of the decorations on our tree all of which hold some meaning for us which is what makes our tree one filled with many memories.

Your decorations are beautiful. I too love all the memories that go with decorating a tree. I gave my children their homemade ornaments when they married but I sure do miss them. We spend winters in Florida, away from family, and I miss seeing their trees in person. I think the ornaments mean more to me than them at this stage of their lives. Happy Blue Monday.

I love it when people's trees are about memories and not about themes.

The wall hanging is so pretty, I love it. Your tree is just stunning. I agree, all the old sentimental ornaments make the best trees. Thanks so much for linking to TTT. Hugs, Marty

I have that same bear wall hanging! And it was probably made around the same time. I know my Grandma made it for my family when I was a kid- and now it hangs in my home for my little ones... I had to comment because I was just so surprised to see it. Love your blog...

I have the wall advent calendar as well! My mom made it for us when we were kids and when I got married she mailed it to me to use in my home! I always wondered if somebody else had it!

Your tree is just gorgeous! I like a plushy decorated tree, and I would say yours qualifies on that count. ;) How special that you have the santa made by your mom and the ornament you made of her to use each year. Thanks for linking to my party.
